Plant information:
Beta vulgaris subsp. vulgaris
Sow: March to July
Harvest: June to October
Height: 20cm+
Our favourite variety of beetroot, mild flavoured and fantastic served raw. When sliced in half raw the flesh resembles a red onion with white a red rings
Sowing instructions:
Beetroot seeds are best sown direct when the soil has warmed in early spring; can be sown earlier in a greenhouse or polytunnel. Sow small amounts every week or two over the growing season to provide a continuous crop.
Growing instructions:
You'll need a gap of 8-10cm between plants to get good sized beetroot, so thin seedlings when the plants have a decent number of leaves. It is best to do this by snipping the leaves off; the leaves can be used in salads to add an earthy depth of flavour.
Notes:
A real stunner! Best served raw sliced very thinly.
